To celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Australia and New Zealand, we’ve teamed up with UNICEF to give life-saving vaccines to 100,000 children across the Pacific.
I trust that those who were able to have Committee meetings had successful and enjoyable get togethers.
Again I would like to give a huge shout out to our book selling team ably led by Geoff McLay ,Geoff Tomkins , John Huddleston and Doug Lovell for a fantastic job .
The skiers amongst us may be a l little disappointed with the summery conditions of late but a guess a big helping of the white stuff is on the way .
Last Monday a number of us attended the funeral of a local icon . Ruth Coghill , a very special 90 year old lady of elegance and charm whose light shone brightly for those lucky enough to know her .
I will give a brief statement on 3 minute talks at our next meeting .

July 18th: Matt Woods and Tim Barke.
Matt Woods, CEO Destination Queenstown and Tim Barke, CEO Lake Wanaka Tourism, will take you through the region’s Destination Management plan created in collaboration with QLDC. They will review how and why it was undertaken and the research which informed the creation of this plan for our region’s sustainable future. They will review the key projects and answer any questions you may have.
July 25th: Markus Hermanns: Backyard Trapping in the Upper Clutha.
Markus Hermanns, originally from Germany where he served as an officer in the German Federal Armed Forces for 12 years and completed his studies in German, Science and Education, immigrated to New Zealand in 2012.
After finishing his Post Graduate Teaching Diploma at Canterbury University in October 2014, Markus began teaching at Wanaka Primary School. In January 2023 he started a new position as a Year 7/8 Integrated Studies teacher at Mount Aspiring College.
Markus has been a committee member of Wanaka Backyard Trapping since its founding in 2018. He has a strong passion for the conservation of native NZ species, especially birds, and contributes to this by being an active trapper himself and running multiple educational programmes for Wanaka youths. Markus is also supporting John Darby with the local breeding programme of the Great Crested Grebe and runs an environmental programme for Kahu Youth.

July 4th Presentation: Andy Coughey MD Ministry of Wool NZ.
Andy gave an interesting presentation covering his career initially in New Zealand 'then England. He spent some time on the uses of merino wool; its beneficial use in the Military and as a logical replacement for petrochemical derived clothing.
Andy discussed leveraging the value of wools natural status and rejuvenating the sector. Of interest with Wimbledon in the sports headlines, wool is a major component of Wilsons branded tennis balls.
Andy was thanked by Ian Shore.
Fundraising
The July Book-sale concluded with one mighty first day kicking off the event. Final results will be forthcoming from the fundraising team in due course. It appears the work in culling the offerings was successful with buyers commenting the books were generally of a higher quality than previous years.

I hope all is well with you.
Recently Food for Love has had a surge in nominations (plus with so many drivers away at the moment) resulting in us providing 4 drivers each week.
Would you be able to put it out to your members to see if there are more people who are willing to give an hour of their time once a month to deliver the Thursday meals.
Pick up is between 3 - 3.15pm at the rugby clubrooms with deliveries split into areas (covering from Hawea to Queensbury) and usually taking no more than an hour.
I would really appreciate it.

A Note on the Family Support Programme
I believe your organisation is aware of the Community Networks/LINK Family Support Programme, a volunteer-based service supporting local families in the Upper Clutha. The first round of the service has gone really well and we are now looking for more volunteers to help our young families with companionship and household tasks. The commitment is two hours a week and we match volunteers with a family for a minimum of six weeks, so that a trusting and mutually beneficial relationship can be established.
