To celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Australia and New Zealand, we’ve teamed up with UNICEF to give life-saving vaccines to 100,000 children across the Pacific.
Great meeting last week with the induction of Chris Scott ( welcome Chris ) and an inspirational address from District Governor Phil Gully .
Interesting to note that one of the District themes relates to better outcomes for women and girls so our planned subcommittee to work with other clubs and the district to assist Dr Helen Paterson’s programme for rural women’s health fits this well.
A good week coming up with the bowls evening on Tuesday ( thanks Chris Wright ) and the Tititea working bee at the weekend .
Geoff Mc Lay is doing a great job organising the sale of duck race tickets which are going well .
Just watching Australia vs Wales .16-6 to Wales at half time. Love the fact that if this continues Aussie will be out of the World Cup !!

October 3rd: Katherine Buttar QLDC Waste Minimisation Project Officer
Katherine (Kath) Buttar is a self-confessed waste geek who is paid to talk ‘rubbish’ all day in her current role as Waste Minimisation Project Officer for the Queenstown Lakes District Council. During her career as a sustainability professional in both the private and public sector, Kath has been involved in a variety of projects focused on three waters, solid waste, sustainability strategy development and delivery of community education initiatives. She is particularly passionate about driving and supporting community-led solutions around avoiding waste and inspiring positive behaviour change to create a regenerative, zero waste future.

October 17th: Tui Homer and Simon Bretton - Optometrists - eye health as we age.
Tui Homer was the founder of Central Vision and now co-owner of Matthews Central Vision. Tui is Taranaki born and raised. She qualified with a Bachelor of Optometry in 2005 from the University of Auckland. Moving forward, she then went on to gain a certificate in Ocular Therapeutics. This qualification allows Tui the rights to prescribe eye medication and treat anterior segment disease. More recently Tui has undertaken extra studies to allow the independent management of glaucoma.
Tui’s love for Wanaka and its people budded in 2007 when she moved here for a winter and has been here ever since. Tui’s other passions, when not in the consulting rooms at Wanaka Lakes Health Centre, are her two young boys, mountain biking along the beautiful Wanaka trails, and snowboarding the local mountains
Simon Bretton was born in Canada, and as you will hear when he starts talking with his funny accent, he is from Quebec, the French speaking part. Simon studied Biomed in Montreal, before moving to Auckland in 2013 to study his bachelor of Optometry. He finished in 2016, graduated in 2017 and worked for 5 years around Wellington, before moving to Wanaka about 18 months ago. Simon enjoys the outdoors, therefore the move to Wanaka was more than logical. You might also find him around the squash club a few times a week, playing or helping out as a committee member.
Tuesday September 19th: Guest Speaker -District Governor Phil Gully.
We were honoured to host our new District 9999 Governor, Phil Gully and his wife and IT support Anna on their whistlestop tour of our District.
Phil took us through President Goedon McInally' goals for his term and commented it was a pleasure to meet him at a recent Convention. Phil then outlined his goals for District 9999 (as outlined below) and finished by restating we all should Have Fun.
As President John mentioned above, it was a very inspiring talk.

Club Social Activities
The Rotary Soiree held at Fran and Gary Tate's featuring Allen Hogan and the 3's a Crowd group, proved to be a mighty affair with great Jazz and a full house. Thanks to Peter Borrie and Fran for their organisation. And thanks to Sally Angus for the Photographs.
The Gibbston Valley Concert is scheduled for Saturday, 3 February 2024.
The Rotary Club of Wanaka has once again agreed to provide the labour to staff the two main entrance gates at the Gibbston Valley Concert on Saturday, 3 February 2024. Some of us may also be asked to assist in some other areas e.g. monitoring of drink water tanks.
An opportunity to party or simply chill out and relax with friends and family, whilst enjoying listening to some old musical favourites! All AFTER a stint helping to raise funds for our local Rotary Club, with all funds going to local community groups.
Most of you are well experienced, having helped previously. We will be supplied with scanners to scan people's tickets as they enter, so the task is a relatively simple one. We just need to ensure that we have enough people on hand on the day! Security staff will be in attendance checking bags etc. Event management will be on hand to troubleshoot.
Everyone who volunteers, will be provided with a free pass to the concert (value $159).
In addition to the above, the Rotary Club of Wanaka has been given the opportunity to collect donations from the Cromwell car park. We can expect a reasonably good collection here for just a few hours of effort.
In previous years, most people have been able to be released from the gates at around 1.00 - 1.30pm. All helpers are usually released by 2.30pm. The carpark collection is from 8.30am to whenever, but usually, it is wound up by 1.00pm.
People will be able to have short breaks during their shifts, and you can bring in outside food and non-alcoholic drinks. No outside alcohol is permitted.
Everyone helping on the day with ticketing at the entrance gates will be required to attend an on-site briefing at 8.00am, with the gates manned from 8.30am.

This will be the 12th year of this concert series and it is expected to be a great concert for people to enjoy and relax. It also provides the Rotary Club of Wanaka with a significant fundraising opportunity. A Note on the Family Support Programme
I believe your organisation is aware of the Community Networks/LINK Family Support Programme, a volunteer-based service supporting local families in the Upper Clutha. The first round of the service has gone really well and we are now looking for more volunteers to help our young families with companionship and household tasks. The commitment is two hours a week and we match volunteers with a family for a minimum of six weeks, so that a trusting and mutually beneficial relationship can be established.
