To celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Australia and New Zealand, we’ve teamed up with UNICEF to give life-saving vaccines to 100,000 children across the Pacific.
It's been a busy two weeks since I last wrote for the bulletin. I attended several committee meetings & it is great to see the involvement of our members in the organization of our club. We then hosted the Central Lakes Presidents & Presidents elect with Keith McIntosh (AG) chairing the meeting at the Albie. Lots of information about the regionalisation process that is coming into effect on 1 July 2024. If any Rotarian is interested in the Rotary Community Leader position, please contact me for further information. Don't forget about District 9999 Conference to be held in Christchurch on Saturday 20 April. Early bird registration closes on the 1st of March.
We then held our board meeting with lots of discussion & debate. It was great to be part of a collaborative and democratic group leading the direction of our club. In a democracy there will always be occasions where differing opinions and beliefs are held, and I know that all Rotarians act with integrity and high ethical standards for the benefit of our community.
It was great to see everyone attending our meetings at the Albie & don't forget to record your absences & leave please.
Remember on Tuesday 27 February we are meeting at Rhyme & Reason Brewery, 17 Gordon Road, Wanaka at 6.00pm then going to visit the Community Workshop 15 Gordon Road. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

2024 Wanaka A@P Show - March 8-9th: Reminder from Mike Elliot
I hope you have received the Volunteer list for the 2024 Wanaka A&P Show by now.
The Rotary Club of Wanaka have been asked to sell tickets and scan tickets at Gates 1 and 3 for the two days of the Show, for which we will be paid $25/person/hour, so a good fundraiser for the Club.
The Sign-up lists have Scanner/Seller 1 or 3 signifying the gates to which you will be volunteering. Instruction will be given as to the duties involved, but all relatively simple.
There are also two slightly different jobs on Gate 3 on both days - helping to get traffic on and off Brownston Street at the end of the day.
I would like to get as many volunteers in place as soon as possible so that the A&P Society can make up any shortfall, so please get your names down soonest!!
Thank you in anticipation for your help in making some more funds for the Club - and hopefully having a bit of fun too!!

Club Night Activities Tuesday 20th February: Dr Justine Cormack - Freelance Violinist
Introduced by Richard Howarth, Justine gave Rotarians a quick overview of her life, qualifications and her career with the NZSO, NZTrio and the AWE Festival with London based Kiwi Violinist Benjamin Baker.
Justine also highlighted the 15 years she spent with NZTrio performing throughout NZ, Australia, Asia, South America, the USA, Europe and Scandinavia. This culminated in the awarding of the Lilburn Trust Citation for Outstanding Services to New Zealand music.
Justine concluded her talk by demonstrating her incredible talent with a delightful 2 minute violin solo. She was thanked by Noelene Pullar.

Meet at Rhyme and Reason in Gordon Rd for drinks / socializing .Normal 6 for 6.30 time frame . The Manager (Alex) has reserved the Malt Room for us .
6.30pm Pop next door for a look around the Community Workshop ( contact person Gwilliam )
Members then meander back to Rhyme and Reason for something to eat ( from Corey at the adjacent food truck ) and drinks . Departure time flexible .Pay as you go for drinks and food .
Results of the Annual Royal Tarras Golf Tournament:

Rotary Golf at Tarras Sunday 18th February went really well , 18 players and a few walkers, followed by a meal at the Luggate Pub afterwards and prize giving … prizes awarded to best team. 4/5 teams has a one over, after 9 holes with Ian Shore's winning on a “count back

Monthly Fellowship evening: February - Paco and Kerry Janca's
A perfect late summer evening; Pizza aplenty; Havana cigars and a tequila extraordinaire made for a great week end for Rotarians who made the trek out to Luggate. Thank you Paco and Kerry for your hospitality and generosity, and to Jim and Nic who cooked for us.

Social Events Coming Up
Bike Ride … Thursday March 21st, initially - Old Cromwell to Clyde, start time approximately 11:00am
optional stop off at Carrick for Pizza Lunch (25 minutes by Bike)… then Enjoy the newly-opened 55km Lake Dunstan Cycle Trail, ending in Clyde Township for a few sundowners then meal at Olivers. (2 - 3 hours ride)

Friday 22nd optional drive, then bike Omakau to Oturehua (30 kms)
Note …non bikers more than welcome, as a few cars without cyclists will need to be shipped from Carrick to Clyde, these non bikers will also enjoy the accommodation meals and banter.

Editors section. Mike Elliot has taken on the task of clearing and reorganizing the old records, minutes and photographs from our storage container. Some records are being accepted by the Hockin Library.
Meanwhile there is also a collection of Photographs DVDs and VHS memories which complement the 3 albums in the collection.
It is also our Clubs 40th charter anniversary in September. Because of her previous involvement in organising and converting some photographs into electronic records, Fran Tate and I have been tasked with finishing this job and providing a visual record of our Club's history in September.
So to provide a taster, below are some shots from a different era.
