To celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Australia and New Zealand, we’ve teamed up with UNICEF to give life-saving vaccines to 100,000 children across the Pacific.
Another beautiful day in paradise !Hope the Committee Meetings went well last week - I know that Directors get a number of apologies for these , especially at this time of the year , but it is tough on Directors to have to cancel these .Last Directors meeting for the year on 20 Nov .
I was out of action last week as I took a bus load of kids to Tautuku Lodge for a school camp .Great place which has benefited from a lot of Rotary input and can verify that after immersing myself over 2 days in the Kaka Point surf that the water comes directly from the Antarctic !!
4.30 am start on Saturday to bus drive for the Queenstown Marathon and kayaking with the grandkids on Sunday just about finished me off !!
Geoff McLeay and Tony O ‘Regan continue to provide wonderful publicity out of the Duck Race for WRC- brilliant work .
As the year draws to an end our programme is still varied and interesting - many thanks to all concerned. 21 Nov - Northbrook Retirement Village ( thanks Pat Heffernan ) , 28 Nov - normal meeting , 5 Dec - AGM plus a speaker , 12 Dec - Foundation Auction / Final Meeting .

District 9999 donated 10 water purification devices to Ukraine which will enable up to 10,000 residents to have access to clean drinking water .

Melbourne Cup Afternoon.
Another great Melbourne Cup afternoon was held at B. effect (thanks to Matt and staff) with many a punter’s hope shattered once again with a popular few sweeping the prizes.
Lin Tempest and Bernadette Costello took first prize with “Without a Fight” and Rod Pemberton and Anne Johnston taking second with “Soulcombe”.
Amongst other winners on the day were M.J. Moffat for Best Dressed Woman: Ken Johnston for Best Dressed Man and Geoff and Karen McLeay for Best Dressed Couple.
Special thanks to Chris Wright for organizing and compering the afternoon and Kenny from “The Village Gift Wanaka” for supplying the gifts and handing them on to the winners.
Rotary Christmas Puddings
The Rotary Christmas Pudding has been cooked already and only requires gentle reheating. It’s great eaten at room temperature as a cake too. Try it with a slice of cheese and cup of tea or glass of port - yum!
Steaming
Pierce foil seal with a knife several times to allow steam to escape. Place the pudding into a saucepan. Pour enough water into the saucepan to cover half the height of the pudding bowl. Simmer for 1 hour or until the pudding is heated through. Refill water as it evaporates.
Do not allow to boil dry.
Microwave
Remove seal, ensuring all foil is removed. Heat the pudding for 3 minutes on high (based on 1000W oven). Adjust time to suit your own oven. Invert the bowl onto serving plate, squeeze gently and lift off slowly.

Sunday Nov 19th Bike Ride.
It was a great morning for a ride which took the team out Ballantyne Road, Faulks Road, Maxwell Road, Boundary Road and Halliday Road finishing up at The Albert Town Patisserie for a coffee and pastry. Intrepid riders included Derek and Anne Howarth, Anne Lindsay and Julian Warren, Marie Fitchett, Paco Janco who joined us at Albert Town and yours truely the Ed.

My name is Dan Griffin and I was diagnosed with stage four cancer in October last year and given 6-18 months to live. One year on I am doing far better than expected due to immunotherapy which is costing my young family $17,000 per monthly treatment. I have two boys aged 7 and 4 and along with my wife Erin they are my motivation to fight this cancer into remission.
I have been told that would take a miracle but to me immunotherapy is that miracle. As a family we have now spent $100,000. I went to Mt Aspiring College and lived in Wanaka but have moved to Te Anau as Real.NZ offered me a job here when I was working for Cardrona. Real.NZ has kindly given me a cruise in Milford Sound on Saturday the 18th of November at 3.15pm to sell to raise funds.
I am asking for your help to publicize this in the Wanaka community via your club. We have the opportunity to sell 400 tickets at $200 per person which includes a welcome drink once onboard and canapes. The cruise will run longer than 2 hours if weather permits.
I am hopeful to speak to the Te Anau Rotary Club as well as Lions to get as much reach as possible. I can also do the same if your club.
