INVITATION: at 4.00pm tomorrow (27/5), members are invited to gather in the Waterfall Creek carpark, adjacent to the walking track back into town.
THE PLAN: to walk the 200 metres or so to experience the view from the recently completed diorama; an installation honouring John and Jill Blennerhasset.
WHY: John was a past member of our club, who along with Jill, were pillars of this community throughout their time. Plus, at the invitation of their daughter Nic, the Rotary Club of Wanaka, most notably John Milburn and Mike Elliot, played a significant role in having the diorama built.
AFTERWARDS: make your way to Kahu Youth by 5.00pm - they're located at Paetara Aspiring Central, which you may know as The Old Mitre 10. We'll see around their facilities and probably learn more about how Rotary has helped, and could again help them.
AND AFTER THAT: it's back to The Albie for fellowship, a meal and some notices - we have a lot going on.
The leaves have mostly dropped now, but still lots of walnuts etc. to pick up in many gardens, But hasn't the last of autumn's weather been wonderful - at least half the golfers are still wearing shorts! On a sunny day last week, I was able to view Rob Roy Glacier side on from the floor of the Matukituki Valley; the air was crisp, the snowy tops were glistening and for a few moments the only noise was from a lone kea flying by - we do live in a magical place.
But winter looms and the A&P Winter Crop Competition organisers have been very busy; judging crops before the livestock gets too close to them. Soon you will see sign-up sheets for helpers for the May 6th awards/auction night - please be available, it's a great night.
And of course, at the beginning of July it's our annual book sale. Sorting is well underway, but if you can help with pickups from the Mega Mitre10 collection point, please let John Huddleston know by phone or txt.
