Bio- I came back to Wanaka 22 years ago after a life of working in the venison industry, Teaching, Farming and working for the Ministry of education as a consultant. we sold our farm and having had a house here made the move in about 2001 not really knowing where to next! A local business came on the market and i bought Wanaka Marine. This was to be a 7 year stint however i sold it 21 years later. as part of my community focus i was heavily involved in Rugby for a few years as coach, assistant coach, treasurer, secretary, club captain and vice president and also joined the UCRTUA where i became chairman some 12 years ago- and here i am still. My presentation is about that service we provide - our accomplishments and current issues

My name is Liona Stanicich and I am the RYDA Program Coordinator for the South Island. RYDA stands for Rotary Youth Driver Awareness and I will be running 34 RYDA workshops through the South Island in Term 1 and Term 2.
February 4th - Stuart Ayres : New Member profile.
At our Tuesday 11th meeting, Stuart was inducted into Wanaka Rotary. Stuart is a long time Rotarian spending 4 years in Palmerston North Rotary and a further 24 years in Kapiti serving on various committees, earning a PHF and by his own admission has difficulty in saying No. Stuart gave a great account of his career in the Banking sector commencing in Palmerston North, Nelson, Wellington then in London when he commenced an O.E in 1981-2. As a change of scene Stuart the became a courier for 18 months before returning to NZ. At this juncture he met and married Debbie and had three children, Cam, Hannah and Nick.
Stuart then moved back into the Banking and Finance sector in Palmerston North before moving back to the Kapiti Coast into Insurance and Mortgage broking. After they lost Cam they moved to South America for a franchise business then back to NZ . Since 2010 Stuart has assisted in two startups (1) a wheelchair and (2) electronic hardware and software to assist child learning. Stuart is also involved in capital raises for other organisations.
In 2020 immediately prior to the Covid period he did the Tour Aotearoa and is now based in Wanaka involved with Bike Tours, Fly fishing and transfers/wine tours.
Start's wife Debbie has a PhD in Education and is involved in education.

The annual Wanaka Rotary Golf Match at the Tarras Country Club
This was held last Sunday evening under hot dry and dusty conditions with constant supervision by Ovis aires.
A big thank you to Derek Howarth and his team for organising the event and arranging for some appropriate beverages halfway around the 9 holes.
Winners of the ambrose at 3 over was the John Milburn/Paco Janca team of 5 and Jen Milburn who won the individual "shot of the tournament" with a 300 meter drive. It should be mentioned Jen promised G.B.H to any other potential "shot of the tournament" challengers.

Wanaka Rotary Duck Race - Winners prizes handed on to the Community.
Our Fundraising Committee Chair Geoff McLeay has been able to report that Southern Land's $500 winners prize has been handed on to the Upper Clutha Community Link, and that Todd and Walker Law have handed their $500 prize to Food For Love Wanaka. Two generous gestures.
A huge congratulations to your team on winning T Rotary Club of Wānaka’s Fastest Corporate Duck Race! What an impressive achievement and a fun way to bring your team together. We hope you’re still celebrating the victory!

You might not recall but Todd & Walker Law won the Rotary Club of Wānaka fastest corporate duck competition held at Dinosaur Park/Bullock Creek last November and won $500.
They have advised that they would like to donate their winnings and have selected Food for Love which is wonderful. If you could please arrange for your bank account details to be emailed to me I will arrange for our Rotary Club to make payment on their behalf.

Otago Hospice Street Appeal - Friday 7th March
Hi there, My name is Amy and I help coordinate the Otago Hospice Street Appeal. We have a confirmed date on Friday 7th March and have council approval to collect in Wanaka. Whilst we don't have an inpatient unit based in Wanaka we do have a team of care coordinators, drs, social workers etc on the ground helping local residents live well and die well in their own home or care facility. We have several sites where volunteers will shake buckets for us but I do have some gaps. I was wondering if Rotary would be able to help? I need to find cover at Mitre10 Mega (Three Parks) 10am - 6pm. Does this sound like something the group could help with? Another point worth mentioning is that all the money raised in Otago stays in Otago, it doesn't go into a big national pot.
In early December a sub-committee was formed to meet with The Upper Clutha A&P Society (A&P) and to make recommendations. Members of the sub-committee are Deans Hudson, John Milburn, Rod Pemberton, Geoff McLeay, Eion Rutherford, Mike Elliot, Elaine Kelly and Geoff Tomkins.
It has been since been agreed that Rotary will remain as the owners and organizers of the competition but will grant The Upper Clutha A&P Society naming rights for a term of 1 year for the payment of $5,000. The period of the agreement will end on 30 November 2025.
Both parties have a collaborative approach which reflects the Upper Clutha rural community and we see this a positive move in providing our farmers with an event which will engage the farming community. In accepting the offer, A&P have kindly offered to help with the promotion of the competition and provide their support with an end goal of raising funds for the Otago Southland Rescue Helicopter Trust and the local Fire Brigades of Tarras, Luggate and Hawea, this years recommended beneficiaries.
The event will be held at Upper Clutha Rugby Football Club on Friday 16 May.

venue and most importantly who we are supporting.
