To celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Australia and New Zealand, we’ve teamed up with UNICEF to give life-saving vaccines to 100,000 children across the Pacific.
It is wonderful to have welcomed two new members & two transferring Rotarians into the amazing Rotary club of Wanaka. I think we rock!

Coming up -Club Night Activities
April 16th - The Stoaker Room: Quentin Quider.
It was the sea and not the land that originally lured Wild Earth Wines and Stoaker Room owner Quintin Quider to NZ. He fell in love with the rugged landscape but most of all the people who inspired him to move from South California to Stewart
Island
Food and Wine were always his passion so developing a bond with Central Otago Pinot Noir was an easy natural next step . After a series of ear problems Quintin decided to hang up his wet suit and begin his next journey, Wild Earth Wines . Soon
afterwards Quintin had invented “The Stoaker” entertaining friends, cooking freshly caught trout and wild game along the banks of the Kawerau River .
Now Quintin and Sue invite Rotary to be part of their next venture; The Stoaker Room Bistro and Bar on the 16th of April
Four new Wanaka Rotary members
It was with great pleasure President Marie together with Membership Director Pat Heffernan welcomed four new members to our Wanaka Rotary Club. Kelly Budd (Legal Executive), Helen Tait (Tourism), Merrin Dougherty ( Accountancy) and Graeme Brown (Engineering) were inducted by Pat and President Marie. Catherine Little: Honorary Member (PHF+S): Memories of Jimmy Jones
Jimmy Jones - an ANZAC I remember by Catherine Little.
Catherine Little told the story of Jimmy Jones, a gold miner from Cardrona during her youth. In her inimitable way,
she described Jimmy and his hut, his way of life, his possessions, the rumours surrounding him, and his frailty in later life. He was a man who had seen much and actually talked of his experiences at Gallipoli – which may have explained his penchant for the “demon drink”. He was, however, a kindly man helping others and being a friend to the children in Cardrona.
Catherine’s memory of Jimmy is a direct remembrance of Gallipoli and the ANZACS – and we benefited from her clear and descriptive story.

WOW Easter 2024

In 1988 aviation entrepreneur Tim Wallis, (later Sir Tim Wallis) presented an airshow and country fair that attracted 14,000 visitors to Wanaka Airport.
Delighted with this success, he decided to expand on the theme and hold a biennial event over the long Easter weekend. As the show grew so did its support and now around 50,000 people make the pilgrimage to Wanaka for their weekend of excitement.
Now acclaimed as the largest Warbird Airshow in the Southern Hemisphere WOW Easter 2024 was another huge success and many saying the best show so far. The Rotary Club of Wanaka was contracted to sell the official WOW Merchandise, and this
also was very successful, thanks to the many Volunteers from the club.
Over $80,000 of T- Shirts, Caps, Beanies, Jackets and other goods was sold over the 3 days. There was over 1000 volunteers helping every day to run the show and over 65,000 people watched on with excitement. They used over 250,000 litres of fresh water and cleared 206,000 litres of waste (poos & wees) from the many porta loos.

We have this great free driving workshop coming to Wanaka in 2 weeks 10th April and would love to get our attendee list full! we need at least 25 people registered.
