To celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Australia and New Zealand, we’ve teamed up with UNICEF to give life-saving vaccines to 100,000 children across the Pacific.
My 6 month stint as “Captain “ has come to an end and time for a quick reflection . As I have previously mentioned I consider it a privilege to be part of this great club . My experience has been mainly enjoyable with a few challenges which I have done my best to deal with - if a little clumsily at times !!
Thanks for the wonderful support of members , directors and my mentors Pete H , Don and Mike . The year has ended on a high with a fantastic Christmas function ( thanks Rod , Derek , Peter B and the Activities Committee) and a successful and enjoyable Foundation Auction ( thanks Pete H , Don , Dave McK and the Foundation team ) . It has been a busy 6 months with highlights including the induction of 2 members and a transfer ( Chris , Ken and Rob ) , a great programme ( thanks Rosie ) a very successful Duck Race ( thanks Geoff McLeay and team ) and moving into a new venue . Can’t finish without thanking an unsung hero of the Club ( Ron ( little Jack ) Horner .
Coming up next year is a District 9999 Conference in Ch Ch on 20 April and I think the Anniversary of the formation of the WRC ??
As I hand over the wheel to Marie I wish her a very enjoyable and successful 6 months and I am sure she will benefit from the same great support I have had .

Recent Paul Harris Fellow Awards: Mike and Liz Elliot.
At our Dec 12th meeting, President John assisted by PHF Committee Member Don Irvine took great pleasure in awarding Past President Mike Elliot with the PHF Sapphire award with wife and Partner Liz receiving a PHF award. Mike is seen contributing at nearly every Rotary event (wood anyone?) and is a tireless supporter of our Club who has been ably supported by Liz throughout. Both are deserving of the recognition these awards provide.

Wanaka Rotary Xmas party held At Rod and Paddy-Ann's - Saturday 9th.
The pic's tell the story. Great fun, fellowship, music(thanks Robert Glen), color (with some rainbow?) and food. Thanks to Derek, Peter B, Rod and to the team who gave Rod's shed a good clean (ha ha); prepared the venue and cleaned up next day.

Bella was the Rotary Aspiring College Tertiary Education Scholarship Winner in 2022
February 20th: Dr Justine Cormack Freelance Violinist.
At this point in her career, Justine Cormack is deriving great artistic fulfilment performing as soloist, chamber musician and guest-concertmaster with a broad variety of her favourite musicians and ensembles.
In October 2021, she launched At the World’s Edge Festival (AWE Festival) with London- based kiwi violinist Benjamin Baker, fulfilling a long-held dream to create a chamber music festival within the stunning landscapes of New Zealand’s Queenstown Lakes.
Performing with leading international chamber musicians from around the globe is now an annual performing highlight for her each October.
In February 2020 they performed their first cycle in her gorgeous Central Otago neighbourhood, performing all ten sonatas over just three days. Three years passed before they were able to repeat the cycle in the Northern Hemisphere as originally planned, delayed due to covid disruptions.
Their second performance of the cycle took place at Butler University, Indianapolis in January 2023.
From 2002 to mid-2017, Justine was a founding member and violinist of NZTrio, performing throughout New Zealand, Australia, Asia, South America, the USA, Europe and Scandinavia.
Justine is hugely proud of the legacy NZTrio built during her15 years with the ensemble.
They commissioned and performed close to 40 works from NZ composers and showcased these compositions within diverse programmes on the world stage.
At their final performance with NZTrio, they were awarded the Lilburn Trust Citation for Outstanding Services to New Zealand Music.
Justine performed recently at the Mt Aspiring U3A monthly meeting.

Marc is celebrated for his magnificent contribution as Musical Director by “The Press” and lauded as a real interpreter of boldly romantic inclinations and attention to detail by “the Capitol Times”
Conductor Marc Taddei is Musical Director of Orchestra Wellington in NZ and the Vallejo Symphony Orchestra in the United States. He regularly works with the National Ballet and Opera Companies and the International festival of Arts.
There is a long list of Orchestras he has worked with from the Czech Republic through to Hong Kong, the NZSO and many major orchestras in Australia where he is routinely re- invited to guest conduct and returns every year to do so.
For many years he was Musical Director and Principal guest conductor of the Christchurch
Symphony. Recently he has taken up the role of Musical Director of the Vector Wellington Orchestra.
He has made many CD’s and his work with thew Wellington Orchestra for 2024 looks very exciting.
Dec 5th: Guest Speaker Barna Tiaki Bees
Tiaki Bees help locals from Queenstown Lakes and Central Otago who want to have their own bees, but don’t have the time or skill set to look after them.
The benefits for you are: to learn about the fascinating and mysterious world of the Honeybee; A great talk by Barna and we did find out the composition of Honey. Barna was thanked by David Brewer.
Social Events Coming up
Sunday Bike Rides - 9.30am Dinosaur Park. Ride for approximately an hour then social coffee. All welcome. Peter Borrie will notify when the next rides begin in the New Year.
